Marek Gabriel Hruska’s “.:%?! EP”
Coming from Czech Republic, Marek Gabriel Hruska shows us songs based on pianos, guitars and a lot of toys (CocoRosie on the area). His latest release, “.:%?! EP” is an interesting collection of songs that demonstrates how solid Marek’s music is.
Starting with ‘Symfonicka Onanie’ where vocal layers mix with electronic beats, pianos, flutes, etc., the EP follows to ‘Než Naposledy Vydechneš’ which starts as a quiet ballad and ends as a rock song with a touch of traditional music; the next song is the strongest one of the whole EP, ‘Bolest’ makes you tremble, scream, laugh and cry, it’s probably Marek’s best song, it’s short but powerful; ‘Contigo’ is a mixture of cultures and voices on a song about a broken relationship, features vocals in Czech and Spanish, and Portuguese spoken word, all mixed into a rock song; ‘n.T.n.m.’ is valuable because of its vocals and ‘Okamzik’ shows the child inside Marek’s mind and has the most interesting rhythm I’ve heard recently, it’s done with clocks, zippers and god knows what else!!! To close the EP, there’s the video version of the already known song ‘Interview’.
At the first listen Marek Gabriel Hruska might seem just an indie eccentric artist, but a closer listen gets you addicted to the huge paraphernalia of sounds and the brilliant manipulation of them, as well as to the sentimental touch he gives to each and every song.
