Kid Loco – Party Animals & Disco Biscuits
Kid Loco decided to re-invent himself this time; with the album “Party Animals & Disco Biscuits” Mr. Loco tries to reach a higher level and he almost does it most of the time! Starting with an almost religious ‘Oh Lord’, the first half of the album (Party Animals) grows bigger with each listen, before we notice it we can’t spend a day without listening to ‘Motorcycle Angel’ and ‘Pretty Boy Floyd’ (doesn’t it reminds early Portishead?!), the album follows into an universe of chanson française that surely makes Serge Gainsbourg wake up from his grave. ‘Love Is All Around’ is almost country and ‘The Specialist’ blinks to LCD Soundsystem’s second album. The album lacks interest when Kid Loco decides to throw in mellow piano ballads (‘The Time Of Our Lives’ or ’10-15’) to bore us all, unless we’re kin on those characteristically Italian romantic singers…
The second half of the album (Disco Biscuits) is a collection of nine remixes of songs from the first half. ‘Oh Lord (A Sacred Blowout) (remixed by Erik Jannson)’, ‘Confession (Parov Stelar remix)’ and ‘Pretty Boy Floyd (Erik Sumo In The Rain rework)’ are marvelous visions of the originals, giving them a totally new life. If you’re patient you get a really nice biscuit that’s hidden in the end.
